Real Justice -    Excerpt from Award Winning Story
I wake because I can’t breathe. A hand covers my mouth, I can’t speak. He pulls me from my bed, dragging my small body out the window with only my jammies covering my skin. He does it so easily. I yell for my cousin Matty, but she can’t hear me. His hand tightly covers my mouth. I thrash my legs, hoping Matty will look. But no, it’s as if I’m invisible. I make the motion and try to scream but nothing comes out. I swing my arms but he grips them tighter against his sweaty body. Matty is sleeping on the floor right next to my bed. Why isn’t she waking up? Matty lies silent and undisturbed as this monster drags me out the window of my daddy’s house. He turns and grabs my Buggsy as he closes the window behind us. Buggsy is my favorite stuffed animal. My mommy gave him to me. He hands me my best friend. It calms me for the moment as I pull it into my face, covering my eyes. He can’t be all bad, I think. He sets me down on the ground and promises he won’t hurt me because I’m a good little girl.

Legally Adopted - Excerpt from Award Winning Short Story

I was eleven when I finally told my mother about my stepfather. It was almost as if she didn’t believe me. Her crystal blue eyes stared into mine with skepticism. The wrinkles that crossed her face were of disbelief. I’ll never forget the moment of truth, of devastation, as we sat at the kitchen table, just her and me, having an after school snack while I divulged my secret.

“Oh, honey. How can you say that about him? Karl loves you. He would never do anything to hurt you. He has legally adopted you, Samantha. He has set up a trust fund for you, and everything. If anything, God forbid, ever happened to us, Karl wants you to be taken care of as if you were his own. I’m sure there is some sort of a misunderstanding. He loves you. He brings home special gifts for you,” she said as she twisted a paper napkin into shreds. “How could you think he wants to hurt you?” My mother had a distorted look on her face. She kicked back from the table and drew me to my feet, forcing our eyes to meet. “I love you, Samantha. I wouldn’t let anyone hurt you.” She pulled me into her chest and compressed our two bodies together. “You are my heart,” she whispered. “I’d die before letting something happen to you.”

First
I felt
her lips, their wet softness traveled from my hips along my stomach, up my torso to the ticklish part of my neck.  Fifteen years and she could still cause my skin to dance with excitement as her mouth searched for mine.  Our lips press together harder than usual, more compressed, not soft or supple, forced it seems, and rather brief.  Then she lays her warm body on mine, only momentarily before rolling on her side and then slowly moving onto her back.  That’s when I felt it…, Ashley’s hand.  Until then, it was like Landon and I were the only two in our bed.  For a fleeting moment it almost felt like old times again, just the two of us making love.  Something I was beginning to miss.

Manifesto of a Militant - Excerpt from Essay
Because you don’t hear Praise be to Allah, or see explosives strapped to me when I enter a room doesn’t make me any less dangerous.  Rather than being the oppressed, I am the oppressor.  I am creating a destabilized society, making life unfulfilling.  I subject human beings to indignities that have lead to widespread suffering in America.  Peace will never be upon he who follows me.  The consequences of my creation have been a disaster for the human race.

My name is Crystal.  I’m the leader of an enormous militant group known now as Methamphetamine.  This manifesto is meant to be a public declaration of my intentions.  I am a soul stealer… I haven’t only one face, but the face of many.  One side of my family originated in 1887 Germany, better known then as The Amphetamine’s.  The Methamphetamine’s came from Japan in 1893.  As a family we started out to have great potential, maybe some noble cure for a disease.  But that didn’t work out so well, so we were locked away, imprisoned, put on a shelf until the 1900s.  It wasn’t until the 1930’s that people began to recognize my families star quality.  During World War II, we were used to keep the fighting men going.  Hitler himself was a soldier for our Militant Army, a user; he was a friend to The Methamphetamines in 1942-1945 until his death.

In the 1950s, The Methamphetamine family was suddenly a celebrity, set free to roam the streets of America available by prescription of Amphetamine.  One of our family aliases back then was Benzedrine or Bennie for friends.  We also went by the names of Dexedrine and Methedrine, but most people knew us as Speed, Black beauties or Pep pills amongst other nicknames.  That’s when it began…that’s when we were able to creep into society under the pretense of curing Depression, Narcolepsy, Parkinson’s, Obesity, Alcoholism and Asthma.  We saw this as our jumping off point; we were able to set in motion building our army against humanity.

Jessie approached her destination and pulled her mind back to reality, realizing many years had passed since that night. In her minds-eye, she could still trace the curvy softness of Rachael’s flesh. The years of seduction and foreplay, lingering glances, stolen kisses, and rare moments of sexual stroking, always unexpectedly ending just as quickly as it began were all still pummeling her mind. Here I go again, setting myself up for disappointment. After all the years, Jessie realized the essence of Rachael enveloped her even now. The anxiety of seeing Rachael today was overwhelming her. As Jessie slowed the car, her knees went weak from the force of her fantasy. Finally sighing, Jessie came to terms with her everlasting disappointment. Rachael was straight.
